Luxury footwear designer and marketer Donald Pliner this week announced that he is resigning as Creative Director of his company, the Donald J. Pliner Company. Pliner and his wife Lisa, also a luxury footwear designer and also leaving the company, will pursue new creative endeavors.
"It is with bittersweet emotions that I announce that I have decided to leave the company I founded," stated Mr. Pliner. "I am proud of having built a high quality and innovative luxury footwear brand and wish to thank my loyal customers and followers." He will continue to be a shareholder.
The press release announcing the news states that Pliner has decided to pursue other ventures, which may involve establishing new creative companies or designing, consulting and public speaking at events for brands outside of the footwear industry.
Pliner founded The Donald J. Pliner Company in 1989 and helped to establish it as a stylish, fashion-forward luxury shoe brand recognized for its design, comfort and quality. In 2011, Pliner sold a majority interest of the company to Castanea Partners, a private equity fund, to grow the brand and business.
