Spanish fashion giant Mango is continuing its major UK store rollout, announcing a Gateshead Metrocentre flagship opening later this summer, becoming its largest in the Northeast region to date.

Its new 6,233 sq ft unit, close to Zara, H&M and anchor brand Flannels on the lower Red Mall, will be the retailer’s biggest store in the region, “becoming a welcome addition to the destination, reinforcing its ability to deliver best-in-class retail”, said operator Sovereign Centros from CBRE.

The centre’s director Ben Cox said: “Introducing Mango to Metrocentre brings an added dimension to an already compelling fashion offer. Mango will be a highly complementary addition to our Red Mall line up, which has seen significant investment and an abundance of new commitments over the last 12 months. We prove time and time again that we really are the go-to destination for retail, and we look forward to seeing Mango thrive here at Metrocentre.”

This announcement follows the news that Footasylum has opened in a new and upsized space within the centre, taking on a 12,375 sq ft unit in Red Mall and increasing its presence by 25%.

Additionally, Metrocentre has seen a flurry of new investment and the re-anchoring of Red Mall with the relocations and upsizes for Sports Direct, Flannels and Zara, creating more than 170,000 sq ft of new retail space.

Mango has announced major store opening plans for Britain and Ireland, targeting over 20 new locations including Stratford in East London, Manchester, Bristol, Brighton and Milton Keynes, alongside its entry into Northern Ireland and a return to Cork in the Republic.
