Experiences, we know, have become a vital ingredient to attracting consumers to shopping centres in the post-pandemic era.

Padel Social Club

And this one is big. Landsec and Invesco Real Estate have partnered with Padel Social Club to transform the rooftop of Southside Shopping Centre’s multi-storey car park in Wandsworth, south London, into a 30,000 sq ft innovative sports and recreational space. It will open later this year.

“The deal will bring one of the fastest-growing sports globally to the centre as demand for unique experiences grows”, they said.

The mall includes stores such as Accessorize, Boots, H&M, Decathlon, Deichmann, Next, Primark, Oliver Bonas, Uniqlo and TK Maxx.

The scheme will feature six covered Padel tennis courts, including an exhibition court, changing rooms, a fitness centre with wellness rooms, as well as a rotating line-up of food & beverage kiosks across two floors.

Padel Social joins an already strong line-up of leisure experiences at Southside, including Parthian Climbing, a 19,500 sq ft state-of-the-art climbing experience, and Gravity, which launched the UK’s first indoor e-Karting ring at the centre in 2025.

“Both have capitalised on the growing demand for unique experiences, performing ahead of expectations and driving footfall across the centre”, the owners noted.

Mark Warne, Director of Hospitality & Leisure at Landsec, said: “Guests are increasingly drawn to retail destinations which combine retail, hospitality and leisure concepts to create an all-day out offer. Footfall at prime retail destinations that provide new and exciting experiences is growing as a result, which in turn is increasing demand among brands.”
