Japanese scientists have developed a unique innovative drug that allows growing new teeth. This is reported by Agence France-Presse.
According to the agency, this drug can become an alternative to dentures and implants. The head of the research group Katsu Takahashi noted that this is a completely new technology for the world scientific community.
The first stage of tests, conducted on mice and ferrets for 11 months, showed positive results - the rodents grew new teeth.
On September 1, Japanese scientists from Kyoto University began clinical trials of the drug for tooth regeneration, it is reported on the website of Kitano Hospital. They will be completed in August 2025. If all goes according to plan, the drug will be available for sale in 2030. The study will involve 30 men between the ages of 30 and 65 who are missing at least one molar tooth. After the first phase of testing is complete, the drug will be tested on patients between 2 and 7 years old who have been missing at least four teeth since birth.
