Mrs Kane would have been immensely proud of her children Christopher and Tammy, the design duo behind the luxury womenswear label. The siblings dedicated a highly sensual A/W 15 collection to their mother who passed away just three days before their London Fashion Week show.
"Everything I do essentially comes from drawing; it ultimately reflects how I feel," revealed Christopher Kane in his show notes. Adding, "I wanted a feeling of attraction and sensuality in the collection, something sexual but not grotesque -- this is about love and art in life as well as fashion.
For next season, opposites attract and sensuality is expressed both literally and metaphorically throughout -- a combination of masculine and feminine, hard and soft, romantic and real. A flimsy 'lovers lace' dress gathered at the waist with a shoelace belt and an impeccable navy tailored trouser suit with contrasting red and black lapels stood at either ends of the brand's spectrum of Autumn/Winter looks.
The Christopher Kane catwalk was awash with sumptuous fabrics in a rich ‘night-life' color palette, and abound with unlikely combinations -- high-shine chainmail inset with stylized floral Swiss lace and delicate tulle with life-drawn figures in glitter were among the most noteworthy.
The label stunned guests with an ‘electric orgasm'-inspired current, reflected in cascading forms elegantly falling apart and revealing flesh in two-tone ‘tonic velvet' flock.
Other erotically-charged flourishes included dresses featuring life-drawn ‘lovers lace'; figural drawings silhouetted in Swiss lace, which "entwine, build and in turn form themselves into new silhouettes", according to Christopher Kane.
The design duo explored the notion of molecular attraction using "chromed" accessories and fastenings, acting as rounded protection on box calf bags and shoes. Some are sexually slotted into place, like the signature safety buckle, that is a leitmotif throughout the collection seen in everything from fastenings to jewelry this season. While others simply feature as a reflecting, mirrored surface, demonstrated in many of the leather treatments for bags and shoes.
