Primark is making the most of the revival of physical shopping post-pandemic and after announcing expansion in Portugal last week, its attention is now on Romania with the still-fast-growing fashion and lifestyle retailer set to open its third story there in early August.

It will be the first Primark store in the western part of the country, located in Iulius Town Timișoara mixed-use project.

The peak-summer opening also targets the upcoming busy autumn back-to-school season, it noted.

This opening comes 18 months after the Anglo-Irish retailer entered Romania with its first two stores in ParkLake Shopping Centre and AFI Cotroceni, Bucharest, respectively.

And it said the latest store “marks an important moment… as the retailer continues its ambitious expansion plans in Central and Eastern Europe”.

The Timișoara store will span 3,200 sq m on the first floor of the shopping centre, offering trend-led fashion as well as everyday essentials across womenswear, menswear, kidswear, beauty and homeware, it said.

The store will also feature the brand’s sustainable ‘Primark Cares’ label. Already, 55% of its clothes are made using recycled or more sustainably sourced materials and the retailer confirmed it’s committed to making this 100% by 2030.

Maciej Podwojski, Head of Sales, Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) at Primark, said: “We know our customers in the western region of Romania were travelling abroad to visit Primark stores, so this opening will bring the brand closer to them.”

He added that CEE “is an important growth region for Primark” and it recently opened its first store in Hungary, becoming its sixth market in the region, where it now operates 13 stores.

As well as Timișoara, Primark will open two further stores in the region later this year, with locations in Bydgoszcz, Poland and a second location in Prague, Czech Republic.
