Ultra-fast-fashion giant Shein is planning to set up its UK headquarters in Manchester which has become one of the country’s major hubs for mass-market fashion.

The move by the Chinese-founded but Singapore-based firm follows its recent purchase of Manchester-based Missguided from Frasers Group last month. It has also signed a long-term agreement with Ted Baker owner Authentic Brands Group for the Forever 21 brand.

The northern England city, which is also home to Boohoo, In The Style, and Sosandar, is seen an ideal base from which to continue its rapid UK expansion.

Shein, which is also understood to be mulling a bid for ASOS-owned brand Topshop, has hired former PrettyLittleThing buying director, Gemma Dunne, as its chief of production. Dunne is tasked with building a 15-strong product team in Manchester to create a UK trend-driven brand within the wider Shein offer. The first collection of the yet-unnamed label is expected to launch in January.

Shein’s British arm — Shein Distribution UK Limited — filed its accounts at Companies House in September for the 16 months to the end of last year and it showed revenue here reached £1.121 billion. Unfortunately, it didn't give a comparison period.

Gross profit was £26.23 million and operating profit was £12.15 million. That resulted in profit before tax of £12.19 million, and overall net profit for the period of £9.8 million.

The reason for the unusual operating period and the lack of comparison was because the British company was only incorporated on 6 September 2025.
