Footwear brand Birkenstock’s ‘first-of-its-kind’ community studio and global activation space in East London has a second artist-in-residence – Jyrrel Roberts.
For April, the designer takes over from the the opening incumbent, footwear designer Helen Kirkum, at the Dray Walk Gallery within The Truman Brewery, renamed ‘Birkenstock Studio: Walk With Me’.
On a monthly basis, the footwear brand invites and promotes a variety of multidisciplinary artists to take up space in the capital’s creative neighbourhood.
Roberts, better known simply as Jyrrel, is a self-confessed ‘student of YouTube'. However, despite a background in a number of diverse crafts, his main focus is processing silver and gold and In March, the DIY creator launched a signature jewellery collection consisting of unique made-to-order pieces.
So his residence at the studio will include a series of bookable immersive workshops and sessions that will allow visitors to experiment with tools such as markers, stamps and stencils.
Birkenstock said of the studio-activation space: “It is a true expression of the brand’s DNA and a new physical medium outside of the traditional retail space by which to present its heritage, undisputed craftsmanship and style leadership to a hyper-engaged audience in 2025”.
It added: “We will work with some of the city’s most respected creators and facilitate the coming together of people to learn about, discuss and experience the brands iconic design and unique craftsmanship. The invitation is to walk with our artists step-by-step and to discover the possibilities of creative community”.
