Charity Super.Mkt is continuing its rollout across the UK following its success at the Brent Cross and Cabot Circus malls, with it making its first appearance in northern England, this time in Salford.

The UK’s first multi-charity pre-loved fashion store will open in Quayside MediaCity next month, offering a curated collection “of the most appealing secondhand apparel from charities”, with in-store DJs at the weekends and more events to be announced.

It opens on the evening of 2 November for a preview sale ahead of the first full day on 3 November. It runs until 13 December and will benefit charities including Age UK, All Aboard, Havens Hospices and St Vincent de Paul.

The first Charity Super.Mkt opened in the old Topshop in Brent Cross in January and proved very popular, hitting its four-week target of the amount it wanted to raise for both local and national charities in just four days.

It then opened at Bristol’s Cabot Circus and saw that residency being extended when it proved particularly popular.

In just six months of operating, Charity Super.Mkt has sold over 100,000 secondhand items, stopped 30,000kg of clothes going to landfill, and claims to have prevented more than 260,000kg of CO2 emissions.

The initiative was co-founded by Maria Chenoweth, CEO of sustainable clothing charity TRAID and Wayne Hemingway, of HemingwayDesign and co-founder of fashion brand Red or Dead.

Hemingway said of the latest opening: “Fashion is changing as are the desires of younger shoppers who are more conscious than ever on the impact their spending has on the planet. The North of England has always been strong on community support and charity so we’re incredibly proud to opening here for the first time.

“There are so many incredible garments and styles that would otherwise be lost to the pages of fashion magazines, but we can keep them alive, give people the opportunity to shop in an incredibly affordable way and create unique looks, bring more sustainability into their lives, and give to truly worthwhile causes – what’s not to love?”
