New York City brand Oscar de la Renta, which recently lost its eponymous founder, presented the last collection that the famed Dominican-American designer had a hand in creating.
This was in many ways a collection of two distinct halves. Oscar de la Renta's final collection before his death, it was finished off by new creative director Peter Copping, and represents in many ways the link between the old and the new at the esteemed brand.
That duality was also present in the silhouettes and feel of the clothes, moving from minimalist daywear looks (many paired with metallic patent leather flats) to extravagant (yet never showy) eveningwear. The former were presented in solid, neutral tones, with only a few guipure lace pieces breaking up the color blocking.
Meanwhile the eveningwear included elaborately worked fabrics (like the stunning lace with contrast color embroidery) and floral prints. Fur shrugs and boleros (some in claret dyed mink, others in fox) were added to top it all off, alongside colorful crystal and metal buckles and closures.
One key theme running through it all was the collection's interest in asymmetry, with off-center ruffles adding a touch of the unexpected.
