Nike has been criticised for not producing a replica England goalkeeper shirt for the Women’s World Cup following a commercial decision by the US sportswear giant.

Ahead of England’s World Cup opening match against Haiti on Saturday, fans were unable to purchase the replica shirt worn by the team’s goalkeeper Mary Earps.
“I can’t really sugar-coat this in any way, so I am not going to try. It is hugely disappointing and very hurtful,” Earps told reporters in Brisbane for the kit provider’s decision.
She says she found out her shirt would not be made available for fans to buy in April and has since been “fighting behind closed doors” to find a solution, including offering to pay for the production of them herself.
“I have been desperately trying to find a solution with the [Football Association] and with Nike. Unfortunately, it has become very evident that is not possible and there is not going to be an acceptable solution for the young kids out there.
“For my own family and friends and loved ones not to be able to buy my shirt… on a personal level that is really hard.
Earps, who was named the best female goalkeeper by World Cup organiser FIFA in February, warned that Nike's decision sends out a message that goalkeepers aren’t important, especially as fans can buy replica shirts for her teammates such as Alessia Russo and Millie Bright.
“So what you are saying is that goalkeeping isn't important but you can be a striker if you want," she said.
The team's home and away kits are available for fans to buy from Nike, however, the goalkeeper kits have not been put up for sale. None of England's men's goalkeeper shirts appear to be available on Nike's website either.
Nike has yet to comment.
