The latest resident at The Corner Shop — the permanent pop-up space in Selfridges’ London flagship — is Prada. But as is always the case for The Corner Shop, it’s not just a regular product-based residency.

Instead, until 11 November, the space is hosting a photography exhibition — Witness to Nature — presented by Prada and Magnum Photos with a collection on sale dubbed Prada Reporter.

Witness to Nature “explores the complex, constantly evolving relationship between humanity and nature, as seen through the lens of eight Magnum photographers”. And in addition to that, visitors can shop a special Prada collection, featuring ready-to-wear and accessories “inspired by the roaming photographer’s outfit”.

Selfridges said of this: “Prada knows we’re living in a new age of photojournalism. We use our phones to document our surroundings and post our findings on social media, which have become channels for personal reportage. The Prada Reporter collection blends this reality with traditional explorer tropes – pieces are made in shades of khaki and camouflage and covered in pockets. The collection is designed for durability and adventure, crafted from Re-Nylon and cotton in baggy silhouettes and accompanied by simple, practical accessories.”

Magnum Photos was founded in 1947 as a collective by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, George Rodger and David Seymour. “championing a blend of art and reportage that has become the collective’s signature”.

The aim with Witness to Nature is to continue that legacy. It features four pairs of Magnum photographers “whose work is presented in conversation across four topics: ‘Nature and Metropolis’, ‘Costumes and Cultures’, ‘Community and Seclusion’ and ‘Eternal and Ephemeral’. The exhibition is a celebration of humankind: the state of the world, our place in it, how we came to be here and the challenges we face”.

At the start of the residency, The Corner Shop also offered visitors “nature-inspired, alcohol-free cocktails” and on 12 October from 2pm to 3pm, during Frieze week, one of the Magnum photographers featured in the exhibition, Cristina De Middel, will be visiting the space to sign posters and discuss her work.
