This year’s Black Friday-Cyber Monday (BFCM) shopping events are set to break records, with consumers expected to spend an average of $650 during the five-day period from November 28 to December 2, marking a 15% increase from 2025, according to Deloitte’s 2025 Black Friday-Cyber Monday Survey.

Despite concerns about higher prices and fewer discounts, 8 out of 10 surveyed consumers plan to participate in BFCM shopping, consistent with last year. Shoppers aim to allocate 56% of their holiday budgets to this promotional week, up from 47% in 2025.
Online retailers are emerging as the top choice for BFCM shoppers for the first time, with 69% of respondents planning to shop at online-only stores, surpassing mass merchants (65%). Online spending continues to outpace in-store growth, with a five-year compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10%, compared to 3% for physical stores.
"This year we have a shorter holiday shopping season with the late Thanksgiving. Combined with a deal-focused consumer, we can expect to see holiday shoppers spend big during Black Friday-Cyber Monday promotions as they seek to close out their holiday shopping lists in a shorter timeframe,” said Brian McCarthy, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP.
“We continue to see the week evolve as a hybrid event, but online retailers are taking the top spot for the preferred format for the first time among those surveyed. This reinforces the importance of offering a consistent omnichannel experience to draw in consumers whether they plan to shop in-store, online, or both.”
Shoppers are also changing how they budget for the week. More than half (53%) plan to use credit cards to stretch their spending power, up from 35% in 2025, while 29% will utilize buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) services. Millennials lead in financing usage, with 72% relying on these methods.
At the top of the gift categories is clothing and accessories (77%), followed by electronics (57%), and toys (54%) on shopping lists.
Beyond shopping for others, about 48% of respondents plan to buy gifts for themselves, spending an average of $280.
