Opening much bigger (40,000+ sq ft) stores continues to be the theme for Zara. This time, the Spanish fashion giant is expanding its footprint at Hertfordshire shopping mall Atria Watford, trading up to another massive flagship, spanning 43,000 sq ft from its existing 18,000 sq ft at the mall.

The retailer has signed a 15-year lease on the new unit, located in the newer Charter Place. Opening in early 2025, it will be set over two floors across the upper mall and mezzanine featuring fashion ranges for women, men and children.

Steve Gray, Head of European Retail Asset Management for the mall’s manager Global Mutual, said: “The [expansion] decision reflects the strong performance of Zara’s existing store at the centre. This is a brand our shoppers love – and it will act as a real footfall driver as we enter the new year.”

He added: “Prime retail space like our own remains in high demand and our pipeline for next year is already looking healthy. We look forward to giving further positive updates in the months ahead. ”

And there’s further good news on that front for Atria Watford, with mall owner SGS and Global Mutual also announcing Dutch beauty & wellbeing brand Rituals opening a new store there.

Grey also said of the Rituals arrival: “The centre is home to a number of premium health and beauty brands and Rituals’ luxury home and body products will further enhance our offering. The new store will be a real draw for shoppers – especially as we approach the festive season.”

Penny Grivea, Managing Director for UK & Ireland at Rituals, added: “The new Rituals store will help customers to achieve a sense of wellbeing by finding the perfect products that will help them to balance the body, mind and soul. This opening marks an exciting time for the brand in growing our retail presence across the UK.”
