The fifth edition of this contest presents in its compendium of finalists "an invigorating selection of works" that merge traditional craftsmanship and antiquity with contemporary updates, as highlighted by the organization in a press release.

"Many of the finalists chosen this year have presented works that show a deep understanding and mastery of ancestral techniques from all over the world, combined with surprising and novel materials that create works as relevant to the present as they are linked to the past while seeking to look to the future," said the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize.

The works chosen among 3,100 proposals submitted by artists from 116 countries have been selected by a panel of 11 experts. The finalists represent 15 countries and work with a variety of different mediums, from ceramics to wood, textiles, leather, basketry, glass, metal, jewelry and lacquer.

"We feel fortunate and grateful that in this fifth edition, the world seems to have come closer to the Craft Prize. Among the finalists we have works from five continents, reflecting the broad spectrum of contemporary craftsmanship and the bridges it builds between different disciplines, materials, technologies and pre-technologies. This adds value to our objective: by considering all craft specialties, we appeal to a cosmopolitan dimension that sees the best craftsmanship as timeless yet deeply rooted in tradition," said Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, chairwoman of the jury.

The winner of this prize, who will be rewarded €50,000, will be announced on June 30 in Seoul and chosen by a jury composed of 13 leading figures from the world of design, architecture and museum curatorship.

The recently inaugurated Seoul Museum of Craft Art (SeMoCA), dedicated to Korean crafts, will be the location in charge of hosting the exhibition that will bring together the 30 finalist artworks on display from July 1 to 30, 2025.

The list of selected artists includes Spanish artist, Trinidad Contreras, while Latin America is represented by Brazilian Domingos Tótora and Chilean Fernando Casasempere.

Spearheaded by Jonathan Anderson in 2025, Loewe's creative director, this award seeks to acknowledge artisans that contribute to the development of contemporary craftsmanship while also functioning as a tribute to the brand’s origins, which was born as a collective craft workshop in 1846 in Madrid.
