Selfridgesis cutting jobs at its HQ, although it’s unclear how many roles will go at the moment. The company has said that store and restaurant team members aren’t part of the review.




Reports quoted Selfridges chief Andrew Keith saying the move was all about resizing and reshaping the business for the future and making it more efficient. It has been reviewing how it works since being taken over by Central Group and Signa Group in a £4 billion deal that completed a year ago. 

Frasers Groupis to open flagships for its Sports Direct chain and upscale Frasers department store concept in Sheffield’s Meadowhall mall. It will move into the former Debenhams store that will be transformed into two units of 60,000 sq ft each with Frasers on the lower floor and Sports Direct one floor up. The company has also signed up to open a 40,000 sq ft Sports Direct and 20,000 sq ft Flannels branch at Teesside Shopping Park late next year. Both the mall and the retail park are part of the British Land portfolio. Frasers CEO Michael Murray said the moves are a further sign both of its elevation strategy and its commitment to physical retail. 

London-based luxury resale platform Sign of the Timeshas acquired certain assets from the failed start-up Cudoniwith the move set to “reinforce Sign of the Times as being one of the largest luxury resellers in the UK,” it said. The acquisition will increase its database by 35% and will be financed independently by Sign of the Times. The company has grown by 230% in the last three years and is already a major player in resale via its wearesott.com webstore with daily drops, 5,000 items in total online, and 2,000 pieces in-store. It was founded in 1976 with its store situated in Chelsea and specialises in pre-loved designer goods from brands such as Chanel, Prada, Gucci and Ganni. Owner and CEO Antonia Johnstone said: “We believe strongly in the circular economy and to extend the lifecycle of clothes and accessories, so we are so pleased to be working to acquire the assets of Cudoni. We share the same pre-loved values, so we are also thrilled to be welcoming their customers to Sign of the Times.”

England and Chelsea footballer Raheem Sterlingand music video director Carly Cussen have launched a creative production agency, Playmaker Films. They’ve previously worked together “to create entertaining and quality video products for brands” and the agency will specialise in producing branded content, advertising and music videos, “delivering the impact and emotional resonance of world-class entertainment to brands and their customers”. Its core approach “will be ‘entertainment first’ inspired by Cussen’s and Sterling’s work, both behind the camera and on the pitch, over the last two decades”. Sterling has been working to establish himself outside of football and has worked with brands such as Bottega Veneta and Burberry, “as well as becoming a powerful and influential advocate for social change” via the Raheem Sterling Foundation.
