Frasers Group’s major retail banner Sports Direct is in growth mode again, planning stores for both of Westfield’s London shopping centres next year. They’ll be the second and third locations in the capital alongside Oxford Street.

A 28,000 sq ft site is planned for Westfield Stratford in East London and a 29,000 sq ft site will open at its sister Shepherds Bush centre in West London.

The two statement store openings mark a “significant expansion of Sports Direct’s presence in the capital” as the Frasers Group retail business continues its elevation strategy for the mass sports brands retailer.

That ongoing retail upgrade policy has seen Sports Direct flagships open in key cities including Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow and on London’s Oxford Street over the last couple of years.

In January, Frasers Group also confirmed it has acquired the former M&S store on Liverpool’s Church Street to build a 70,000 sq ft flagship Sports Direct store in the city with “a next-generation sports retail experience”.

The proposed new London stores will take their inspiration from the £10 million Oxford Street flagship that opened in 2025. Both will also feature “cutting-edge retail experiences”.

Ger Wright, managing director, Sports at Frasers Group, said the two new stores “are a testament to Frasers Group’s unwavering commitment to elevating the retail experience for sports enthusiasts across the city and the UK.

She added: “Our Oxford Street flagship will remain the main beacon of our brand in London, while these new locations will further enrich the sports retail landscape, offering unique and immersive shopping experiences.”
