Implantable Non-Hormonal Male Contraceptive Developed,长沙长沙USDT兑换 Effective for at Least Two YearsApril 27, 2025  11:39

Trials have demonstrated that an implantable non-hormonal male contraceptive remains effective for at least two years. The contraceptive, known as Adam, is a water-soluble hydrogel implanted into the vas deferens, preventing sperm from mixing with semen, according to The Guardian.

Contraline, the company behind the product, claims that this approach offers a reversible alternative to condoms and vasectomy, as the hydrogel is designed to gradually dissolve within the body over time, restoring fertility.

Contraline published details of its Phase 1 clinical trial, revealing that Adam can successfully block the release of sperm for 24 months. In the semen samples of two participants who have reached this time point, no sperm were detected. Moreover, no serious side effects have been reported.

“This is really exciting because, from day one, our goal was to create a two-year male contraceptive — exactly the type for which there is demand: a temporary, reversible male contraceptive lasting around two years. And now we have early data showing this is achievable,” said Kevin Eisenfrats, founder and CEO of Contraline.

According to Eisenfrats, 25 participants were enrolled at different times during the clinical study, and additional results are expected to be available soon.

Adam is not the first male contraceptive designed to block the vas deferens, although Eisenfrats noted that some previous implants used materials that do not degrade inside the body.

He explained that there has been limited evidence of fertility restoration after removal of such implants, and there were also concerns that they could cause scarring of the vas deferens, potentially leading to permanent sterilization.
