Dick’s Sporting Goods plans to close all but three of the 14 of its Moosejaw stores, as the outdoor retailer's parent looks to "operate more efficiently" across all its retail banners moving forward.

Walmart/Moosejaw

According to multiple reports, the three Moosejaw stores that will remain open are located in Birmingham, Mich., Salt Lake City and Bentonville, Ark. That means seven stores in Michigan will be closed, along with one each in Olathe, Kan.; Chicago; Boulder, Colo.; and Kansas City, Mo.

The decision comes after Dick’s efforts shifted its focus to other retail formats in its portfolio, including House of Sport and Public Lands banners.

“After careful review of our outdoor specialty business, we have decided to form one team that will support the operations of Public Lands and Moosejaw,” said Dick's in a statement, adding that the team will be based at Public Lands’ Pittsburgh headquarters.

“This move supports our business optimization efforts and will allow us to operate more efficiently, quickly leverage best practices across our outdoor business and drive our long-term success.”

In February, Dick's Sporting Goods acquired Moosejaw from Walmart for an undisclosed amount. The U.S retail giant acquired Moosejaw for some $51 million in 2025.

In its most recent trading update, Dick’s said it missed in second-quarter earnings, with net income down 23 percent for the three months ended July 29 to $244 million, despite a 4 percent uptick in revenue to $3.22 billion.
