Primark continues to invest heavily in its store estate and the Anglo-Irish value fashion retail giant has just entered a brand new market with its arrival in Hungary.

It’s the 17th international market for the retailer and makes up a major part of the business’s ambitious growth plans in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

The new store is in the Arena Mall in the country’s capital, Budapest. With an investment of over €8 million in the location and over 180 jobs created locally, the company said “the opening marks an important milestone for Primark”.

It covers over 33,900 sq ft of retail space, offering a mix of on-trend pieces and everyday essentials. 

As well as being the 17th market globally, Hungary is the sixth CEE market with the company now having 13 stores in the region.

It will open three further stores across the region later this year, with locations in Timisoara in Romania, Bydgoszcz in Poland and a second store in Prague in the Czech Republic.

As well as targeting CEE, Primark has big goals globally and aims to reach 530 stores by the end of 2026. Currently the retailer has over 440 stores, including a brand-new flagship in the heart of Madrid’s Salamanca district, located in the historic former Cine Salamanca, Conde de Peñalver, which opened late last week.
