Authentic Brands Group is wielding the axe regarding new acquisition Ted Baker’s head office jobs as it moves the fashion and lifestyle retailer to a licensed operating model.

Around 200 HQ roles have been cut as part of a strategic restructuring at the business. Departments hit the most included finance, sourcing, production and footwear.

The news was first reported by Drapers.

The employment structure at the UK-based retailer, which was bought by the US group for £211 million last October, has been under scrutiny since the turn of the year when HQ redundancy consultations began.

“Through the process, less than 15% of Ted Baker employees were impacted,” an ABG spokeswoman said. “Neither store nor customer-facing employees were affected.”

Ted Baker has already seen a lot of change under its new owner. A number of its top executives have moved on since the Authentic takeover. They include CEO Rachel Osborne, CFO Marc Dench, chief customer, marketing and digital officer Jason Beckley, and commercial and business development director Helen Costello.

Under the licensing model, the fashion chain’s stores and website were taken over by retail operating company AARC in April. It will operate the business in 11 countries across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Meanwhile, its sourcing and manufacturing operations have been moved to global fashion infrastructure platform PDS.

Earlier this month, Authentic, which also owns Reebok and Juicy Couture, added Hunter Boots to its portfolio in a pre-pack administration deal worth nearly £100 million.

It also signed a long-term licensing agreement for shoe and accessories specialist Aldo to manufacture Ted Baker footwear, handbags and small leather goods.
