The Pitti Uomo show is very fond of Japanese creativity. At last January's edition, the benchmark menswear event featured as guests of honour Jun Takahashi and his Undercover label, and Takahiro Miyashita with Takahiromiyashita The Soloist. For the next session, scheduled from 12th to 15th June, Pitti Uomo looks East again, highlighting the work of Fumito Ganryu.

The 42-year-old designer from Fukuoka, Japan, has been invited as part of the ‘Designer Project’ section, alongside other illustrious names such as Craig Green and Roberto Cavalli. It will be the opportunity for him to launch his own independent label Fumito Ganryu.
Without disclosing anything about the new label, the show organisers described it in a press release as “an exploration of the increasingly close relationship between garments and the body, revealing the pure essence of Ganryu’s style: a new interpretation of casualwear, both contemporary and conceptual.”
Fumito Ganryu graduated from Bunka Fashion College in 2000, and developed his career at Comme des Garçons, under the aegis of founder Rei Kawakubo. There, between 2004 and 2025, he worked alongside designers such as Junya Watanabe and Tao Kurihara.
In 2007, he launched the Ganryu menswear line for Comme des Garçons, featuring a streetwear style inspired by workwear basics. The line was terminated with the Spring/Summer 2025 season, as the designer left the Japanese label exactly a year ago.
Fumito Ganryu said in the press release: “For me it’s an honour and a fantastic opportunity to première my label at Pitti Uomo. I’ll do my best to express my own vision and to take it towards new directions.”
