John Lewis has signed up to trial virtual try-on technology for the department store group’s fashion rental offer.

It has teamed up with specialist Zyler to launch its ‘Try It On’ function, “to elevate the rental experience for customers”, aiming to “bring an immersive virtual feature” to the John Lewis Rental platform.
Claimed to be the first of its kind for a UK rental site, they said the feature will allow customers “to visualise outfits before making informed choices in the comfort of their own homes”.
The service, available across 750 items, allows customers to upload a headshot and input their height, bra and dress size.
Powered by rental giant HURR, the generated image will indicate length and whether that particular silhouette will suit the individual’s body shape or skin tone.
Zyler said earlier trials have shown that the average customer will scroll through 250 different outfits using the technology.
Danielle Gagola, innovation lead at John Lewis, said the ‘Try It On’ function allows its customers to experiment with more styles, colours and lengths in products which they may not have tried before.
“We’re always looking for ways to encourage our customers to use our more sustainable services, and hopefully this function will encourage customers to give renting a go.”
