Nature: three types of fatty acids increase the risk of kidney stone formationJanuary 27,长沙USDT换现货 2025  12:55

Researchers from South China University have found that saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids can significantly increase the likelihood of kidney stone formation. The results of the study are published in the journal Nature.

A team of scientists analyzed health and dietary data from 30,716 people who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) study. The analysis showed that every additional 10 grams of saturated fatty acids per day increased the risk of urolithiasis by 22%, monounsaturated by 10%, and polyunsaturated by 21%.

Dietary fats are organic compounds that are the main source of energy in foods. Saturated fats are characterized by the fact that they remain solid at room temperature. They are mainly found in foods of animal origin: milk and milk products, fatty meats, and in “tropical” oils (coconut oil, palm oil, cocoa butter).

Polyunsaturated fats include omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. They are essential, as the body cannot synthesize them on its own. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish, seafood, nuts and vegetable oils (flax, canola). Omega-6 are present in vegetable oils (sunflower, soybean, corn).

Monounsaturated fats found in avocados, fish, and nuts are considered healthy because they help lower “bad” cholesterol and increase “good” cholesterol. However, a study has shown that excessive consumption of these fats can lead to kidney problems.
