Google has announced a complete phase-out of "Google Assistant" in favor of its new AI-powered helper, Gemini. Over the coming months, the company will begin shifting users en masse to this new solution, after which the classic Assistant will cease functioning on most mobile devices.

What’s Changing?

Gemini will take over as the voice assistant across smartphones, tablets, car systems, smartwatches, headphones, and Google’s smart speakers and TVs. The new system already boasts enhanced capabilities, including device control from the lock screen, timer settings, and music playback.

How Will This Affect Users in Russia?

It’s unclear how Gemini will operate in Russia, where Google has restricted its availability. Users there might find the new assistant inaccessible, potentially leaving their devices without voice control functionality.

In regions without current restrictions, however, users will soon start interacting with the AI-driven Gemini instead of the familiar Assistant, marking a significant shift in Google’s ecosystem as of this transition slated for 2025.
