UK-based athletic footwear start-up based Hylo has raised £2.5 million/€2.9 million in an early-stage funding round led by Eka Ventures. It will use the fresh funds for product and brand development, as well as sales and marketing expansion.

The company uses materials science to create running shoes that are claimed to deliver high performance for athletes and have a low environmental impact via its use of renewable materials.
It also ticks another key consumer priority box at the moment with all materials being vegan, as well as recyclable, and it claims to have a 52% lower carbon footprint than an average running shoe.
The message clearly appeals to investors with Redrice Ventures and a group ‘angel investors’ including Leeds United and England footballer Patrick Bamford also taking part in the funding round.
The company, which launched only in 2025, said it’s on a mission to create a community of athletes who are conscious of the planet, and wants to use innovation as a form of activism.
Bamford said of his interest in the business: “Hylo’s focus on blending performance and impact is what drew me to the company and mission. Products that perform that don’t compromise the planet have been long overdue in the sportswear space. I am excited to be part of the journey and shape what future products the brand brings to market.”
