HBO has officially confirmed the first cast for the Harry Potter series, Variety reports.
The cast now includes the following series regulars: John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
In addition, Luke Tallon will play Quirinus Quirrell. Paul Whitehouse will appear in the recurring role of Argus Filch.
As mentioned, these are the first confirmed actors for the highly anticipated series. As for the lead roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, HBO announced an open casting call in the fall, receiving more than 30,000 applications. Filming is expected to begin this summer.
HBO describes the series as a “faithful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling’s best-selling book series. "Exploring every corner of the wizarding world, each season will introduce viewers to Harry Potter and his incredible adventures," the official description reads.
