Time Out has released its list of the 50 best cities in the world to visit in 2025. Cape Town has taken the top spot.
More than 18,500 people around the world were surveyed to analyse their opinions of their home city, including food, nightlife, culture, affordability, happiness and overall vibe.
Liveability was a key factor in this year’s rankings. Here are the cities that made it into the top 10.
Cape Town
The majority of Cape Town residents (97%) said their city makes them happy – so maybe it will lift your spirits too?
95% praised the city’s food scene, while 82% said they would describe the place as “beautiful”.
Bangkok
Bangkok’s Ekkamai district has been named one of the coolest in the world by Time Out.
Eighty-six percent of locals called the food in Bangkok “good” or “amazing,” while 84% said eating out is affordable.
New York City
A whopping 78% of New Yorkers think the city is “exciting,” the highest percentage of any city on the list.
The Big Apple also received a 92% approval rating for its world-class arts and culture scene.
Melbourne, Australia
Melbourne came in second overall in the “restaurants and eating out” category.
But that’s not all it has to offer, it also came in fourth for its “culture.”
London
London is the city Time Out staff loves the most, with residents praising its diversity and inclusiveness.
New Orleans
New Orleans was the third most affordable city on the list, with 72% of residents saying it’s easy to go to live music, while 83% said they wouldn’t break the bank for a cocktail. Mexico City
The Mexican capital was ranked fourth on the list of the happiest cities.
An overwhelming 96% of locals say their city makes them happy, and the same percentage agree that they find joy in the everyday experiences their city offers.
Porto, Portugal
Porto was named the fourth most beautiful on the list, with 78% of locals describing it as such.
80% said they were happier in Porto than anywhere else in the world.
Shanghai
Shanghai’s nightlife received the highest overall rating from locals.
This likely contributed to why 80% of respondents in Shanghai said they found it easy to meet people and make friends.
Copenhagen
Residents said the city’s investment in itself had paid off.
Around 59% of residents said their happiness in the Danish capital had increased recently.
