Taking the space formerly occupied by shoe chain Office in the city centre street, Garms becomes “the final piece in the jigsaw” for property developer ALB Group’s mission to transform the area which had suffered significantly during the pandemic.

Arran Bailey, managing director of Nottingham-based ALB Group, set out to reverse the trend by buying up 11 properties there in late 2025 with a view to turning the area “into Nottingham’s version of Carnaby Street”.

Garms, which also has stores in Newcastle and Durham along with an online and wholesale business, joins fashion retailer Stick and Ribbon and Sneakrverse on Bridlesmith Gate.

Meanwhile, upscale beauty/fragrance store Jo Malone, which occupies one of ALB’s units, has agreed to extend its lease for five years.

Bailey and his team also commissioned artists to enliven the look of the street which now become “a bustling attraction”, reported The BusinessDesk.

He said: “We had ambition and vision and, with determination and hard work, we have succeeded in putting all the pieces together pretty rapidly."
