US cosmetics group Estée Lauder, whose brand portfolio also includes M.A.C, La Mer and Clinique, has recently opened a new distribution centre entirely dedicated to its travel retail business in Galgenen, Switzerland. The inauguration has taken place as world tourism flows are resuming, after being severely impacted for nearly two years by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The travel retail business continues to prove resilient. We have full confidence in this distribution channel over the long term, especially because travel restrictions are easing nearly everywhere, and people are beginning to take trips again,” said Fabrizio Freda, CEO of the Estée Lauder group.
The new 28,000 m2 distribution centre has been designed to bolster the growth of the group’s duty-free business, generated at airports, city stores, airlines, cruise lines and border stores. A global retail network frequented by 3 billion customers on an annual basis.
In fiscal 2025-21, the Estée Lauder group’s Travel Retail division accounted for 28% of the group’s $16.2 billion revenue.
The Estée Lauder group opened its first office in Switzerland over 55 years ago, and its first Swiss manufacturing plant more than 45 years ago. The group currently operates four distribution hubs in the country, and is the fifth-largest employer in the Schwyz canton.
