Burberry is pulling out all the stops to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as an official platinum partner of the Jubilee’s Pageant that takes place on Sunday.

Burberry

In a partnership with Historic Royal Palaces and Superbloom (the immersive floral display in the former moat of the Tower of London), it has created the The Burberry Floating Meadow. This is a zero-waste meadow on the Thames.

The Meadow is designed to celebrate flora, fauna and the pollinators that will benefit from the project. The installation acts as an extension of Superbloom, highlighting both the importance of biodiversity and the brand’s commitment to tackling climate crisis.

It includes more than 5,000 plants, many of which are indicative of English river ecosystems and often found on riverbanks such as the Thames. It also highlights the role natural grassland and marshes play in storing carbon.

The materials used to build it include massive amounts of recycled plastic collected from rivers around the UK while other elements are responsibly sourced and will be either reused, repurposed or recycled. All of the plants will later be replanted by volunteers in local community projects.

It's moored directly across from the Tower of London until 1 June and created in the image of the Burberry logo.

Meanwhile an Art Wall is being crafted in collaboration with digital artist Jon Emmony. He and Burberry have created “a utopian vision inspired by the power of Superbloom and the dynamism of animals and pollinators of British woodlands”. He said he took inspiration from the “detail of Elizabethan tapestries and textile designs and visualised nature unfolding”.

The wall opens on 1 June and runs until 18 September.

On the product front, the company is launching a commemorative Jubilee Scarf as of this week, which it said is “a celebration of the brand’s British heritage and rooted in exploration and the outdoors”. The scarf is hand illustrated with motifs inspired by ancient British woodlands and the flora and fauna that live there.

It's available online as well as in selected Burberry stores around the world and the scarf will also adorn Burberry store flags and windows in the City of London for the duration of the Jubilee celebrations.

In addition to this, the company has teamed up with Leeds schoolchildren to create Jubilee-inspired artworks that are being displayed on over 80 bus stops throughout the city of Westminster, near to where the Platinum Jubilee Pageant will take place.

The initiative is linked to its partnership with Marcus Rashford MBE, the National Literacy Trust and Macmillan Children’s Books to help young people develop their literacy skills.
