L.L.Bean, the iconic outdoor clothing and equipment retailer, is laying off between 50 and 75 employees at its corporate headquarters, representing about 2% to 3% of its Maine-based workforce.

“L.L. Bean continues to evaluate the fluctuating retail landscape and adapt our organizational design to enable long-term growth,” a spokesman for the company said.
Affected employees will receive severance packages and outplacement support. The reductions, scheduled for March, will not interfere with L.L.Bean’s seasonal hiring plans, which aim to bring on nearly 3,500 workers for the holidays, accounting for roughly half of the company’s peak-season workforce.
This marks the second round of layoffs for L.L.Bean in 2025. Earlier this year, the company cut 46 part-time customer service roles as part of a shift to consolidate call center hours.
The Freeport-based company currently operates 56 stores in the U.S. and 25 stores in Japan, and has 13 licensed retail store locations in Canada operated by Ontario-based Jaytex Group.
In addition to apparel and outerwear, L.L.Bean also offers travel, hiking and camping equipment, footwear, and home and pet products.
