The possibility of recognizing Armenia as a pilot country for the implementation of AI education in the school curriculum is under consideration. This was announced on February 19 by Araksia Svajyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, during her speech at the 24th Congress of the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises.

According to her, the program for teaching artificial intelligence in schools is being implemented in Armenia in collaboration with the Science and Technology Foundation of Armenia (FAST). For the second consecutive year, it has been active in 15 senior schools, and discussions are now underway regarding its expansion.

"We aim for the program to develop evenly across the geographical spectrum," Svajyan stated.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that last year, at Armenia's initiative, the country's partners presented its experience in AI education at UNESCO's annual assembly. This experience garnered significant interest from both UNESCO and international partners.

"Currently, we are considering the recognition of Armenia as a pilot country for implementing AI education in schools. This is an important step forward, and we are doing everything we can to continue this work and develop the program," Svajyan declared.

It's worth recalling that the "AI Generation" program, through which students learn the basics of AI, was launched in September 2025. The program has two levels: the first level, starting in the 10th grade, is tailored for students with a mathematical and algorithmic mindset. It helps to form basic skills and provides career guidance for further education. The second level, which begins in the second half of the 11th grade, allows students to delve deeper into AI, acquiring both theoretical and practical knowledge.

Gaining the status of a pilot country from UNESCO would not only enhance Armenia's international image but also open up new opportunities.

Although the recognition itself does not guarantee funding, it could provide access to grants and support programs from UNESCO and other international organizations. Additionally, UNESCO could offer technical assistance and resources for further development of educational programs.
