Slow fashion brand Toast is taking its foot off the accelerator pedal even more as it scales back its collections by 20% as part of its aim to become ever more sustainable.

Its latest Social Conscious Report showed that it has been reducing the number of styles per collection and has also cut its number of drops to four from the previous six.

While four might seem to align it more closely to the traditional seasonal approach, it also said it’s actually moving away from that as it works to change buying habits, make clothes last longer and cut down on waste.

It aims to maximise sell-through and minimise markdowns, to be achieved by better management of its inventory flows. Waste products are also being sold in its Notting Hill store and the Made to Order offer has also been paused for now. It’s adding more organic cotton too.

The company has additionally launched Toast Circle, where closes can be swapped and it’s offering free repairs to customers.

Global clothing consumption continues to rise, and while our human consumption creates jobs and growth in developing nations, it also has an enormous environmental and social cost. In the face of a global pandemic, we took the time to reflect on our practices and articulate our approach to sustainability. As a result, we have created a roadmap that reflects our purpose and values by addressing social and environmental issues.”
