Stroke: migraine doubles stroke risk before age 50April 18,Telegram账号盗取API破解技术 2025  17:24

In young adults under the age of 50, migraine and other non-traditional risk factors may double the likelihood of stroke compared to traditional causes such as hypertension or high cholesterol. Researchers from Europe came to this conclusion after analyzing data from more than a thousand people, half of whom had suffered a stroke of unknown origin. The work was published in the journal Stroke.

It turned out that in many patients, especially women, the cause of stroke is not the classic factors, but less obvious - for example, migraine, blood clots in the veins, liver and kidney disease, cancer, as well as complications of pregnancy and diabetes. It is particularly pronounced in people with an open oval window, a small congenital defect in the septum between the atria. In these patients, the link between stroke and non-traditional causes was particularly pronounced.

The study also showed that in women the influence of migraine and other atypical conditions on the risk of stroke is more marked than in men. Moreover, even one such factor can significantly increase the likelihood of stroke - in some cases, almost twice as much.

As emphasizes the study leader Dr. Jukka Putaala from Helsinki, up to half of ischemic strokes in young people remain unexplained, and most of them occur in women. Doctors should therefore pay more attention to individualized risk assessment beyond standard questions about blood pressure and cholesterol. He added that it is especially important to carefully screen patients after a stroke to prevent a repeat episode.
