Unknown Chopin waltz discovered after nearly 200 years20:21,小型寄生虫管理 October 29

An unknown waltz by Frederic Chopin has been discovered in a New York library, sending shockwaves through the classical music world, reports The New York Times.

Robinson McClellan was sorting through a collection of cultural relics in storage at the Morgan Library and Museum in Manhattan when he found the index-size manuscript with a name written in the top corner: Chopin.

He shared a photo of his find with Jeffrey Kallberg, a leading Chopin scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. “My jaw dropped,” Kallberg told the Times. “I realized I’d never seen this before.”

After carefully analyzing the paper, ink, handwriting, and musical style, the Morgan Museum concluded that the piece was indeed an unknown waltz by the great Polish composer.

The landmark discovery is the first of its kind in more than half a century. The manuscript dates from 1830 to 1835, when Chopin was in his early 20s, and the music departs in many ways from the composer's usual style. Although the piece is considered complete, it is shorter than Chopin's other waltzes, measuring only 48 bars with a repeat, or about 80 seconds.
