Jacob Elordi's Wuthering Heights Heathcliff sparks controversy16:23,电报盗号系统黑产破解技术 April 16

The first behind-the-scenes footage from the Wuthering Heights film starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie has emerged.

In Emily Brontë's classic novel, central character Heathcliff (Elordi) is described as a "dark-skinned gypsy" with "black eyes."

But Elordi is cast in a very different light in the new Wuthering Heights adaptation.

Controversy has already surrounded the casting of the handsome 27-year-old Elordi, with critics claiming he is "racially ambiguous."

One of literature's greatest male characters, Heathcliff, is later described in the novel as a "little Lascar," a 19th-century term for an Indian sailor.

But the behind-the-scenes shot of Elordi certainly looks rougher and swarthier than usual. Dressed in a long black coat, a gold-buttoned waistcoat and with longer hair and sideburns, the actor showed off a hoop earring too. And when he smiled, he flashed a gold tooth.

Robbie, 36, who plays Catherine Earnshaw, or Cathy, wore a voluminous black dress with a black veil during filming.

The character of Edgar Linton, a wealthy aristocrat who falls in love with and marries Cathy, is played by 36-year-old British Pakistani actor Shazad Latif, with Hong Chau, an American born in Thailand, set to appear as housekeeper Nellie Dean.

Many fans, however, have criticized the decision to use actors who “look like they belong on Instagram” rather than the bleak Yorkshire moorland of the 1800s.
