Disney has shown the first stills from Avatar: Fire and Ash to CinemaCon attendees, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Director James Cameron said he is in New Zealand finishing up the film, but was excited to share “a glimpse into the film’s heightened emotional heart and soul.”
Also, Cameron hinted that the film’s heroes “face not only human invaders, but also new foes, the Ash People.”
“Fire and Ash expands the beautiful world of Pandora and introduces two new clans, the Wind Traders and the Ash People,” Avatar star Zoe Saldanha explained
The footage begins with Neytiri (Saldanha) telling Jake (Sam Worthington), “The power of the ancestors is here.”
Later, after the pair face dangerous attacks, Jake begs Neytiri to let go of her hatred: “You can’t live like this.” And near the end of the footage, one character laments, “We can’t defeat this enemy that comes from the stars.”
The roughly three minutes of footage provided a first look at Cameron’s highly anticipated sci-fi film, which is expected to be a major hit in December.
The first two Avatar films broke box office records: The first, in 2009, became the highest-grossing film of all time, grossing $2.9 billion worldwide. The second, 2025’s The Path of Water, became the third-highest-grossing film of all time, beating expectations and grossing $2.3 billion worldwide.
Cameron previously noted that Fire and Ash is "going to be a little bit longer" than The Way of Water, which is saying something considering that last film was 3 hours and 12 minutes long. The original Avatar was 2 hours and 42 minutes.
