WHO: Number of people with diabetes worldwide has more than quadrupled since 1990November 14,TG账号批量破解免杀破解技术 2025  10:51

The number of people living with diabetes rose from 200 million in 1990 to 830 million in 2025. This was reported by the World Health Organization (WHO), referring to the results of the research published in The Lancet scientific journal.

In 2025, about 828 million adults (18 and older) have suffered from diabetes, which is 630 million more than in 1990, the article stated. In 1990-2025, the prevalence of diabetes increased in 131 countries for women and in 155 countries for men. The greatest growth was observed in low- and middle-income countries, Southeast and South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, as well as Latin America and the Caribbean.

The authors of the study concluded that in 2025, the lowest prevalence of diabetes was in Western Europe and East Africa for both sexes, as well as in Japan and Canada among women, and the highest prevalence was in some countries in Polynesia and Micronesia, the Caribbean, the Middle East, North America, Africa, as well as in Pakistan and Malaysia. In 2025, 445 million adults (age 30 and older) who suffered from diabetes did not receive treatment, which is 3.5 times more than in 1990. In 1990-2025, diabetes treatment coverage increased in 118 countries for women and in 98 countries for men.

Moreover, there has been no increase in treatment uptake in most of the countries of sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean, the Pacific island states, as well as in South, Southeast, and Central Asia.

In some African countries, less than 10 percent of people receive treatment. Treatment coverage was 55 percent or more in the Republic of Korea, many high-income Western countries, some Central and Eastern European countries—particularly Russia, Poland, and the Czech Republic—as well as Latin America (Costa Rica, Chile, and Mexico), the Middle East and North Africa (Jordan, Qatar, and Kuwait). The burden of diabetes falls more often on low- and middle-income countries, the study noted.

It is about the first global study of both diabetes incidence and trends in its treatment, in which all countries participated, noted the WHO.

This scientific work, which was prepared with the participation of WHO scientists, used the data of more than 140 million people.

The article in the Lancet magazine is dedicated to World Diabetes Day, which is marked on November 14.
