THG had big news on Thursday with the unveiling of THG Partnership in Action — or ‘PACT’ — a new initiative “focused on collaboration with suppliers to foster a culture of sustainability while mutually decarbonising operations and leaving the world a better place than it was found”.
The company, whose varied business lines include it being a beauty e-tail giant and white label e-commerce services specialist, said its science-based targets were officially validated by the SBTi in September. That takes in mandatory Scope 1 and 2 reductions with it aiming for an 85% participation of its suppliers with science-based targets by 2027. The aim comes alongside a targeted 90% reduction in absolute Scope 3 emissions by 2040.
But it said achieving that 2040 target “hinges on collaborative efforts and supplier participation, recognising the imperative of collective action for meaningful impact”.
So, as part of PACT, it aims to “share its comprehensive sustainability strategy with key stakeholders and suppliers to not only share progress but find opportunity for collaboration”.
It’s goal is to “enhance transparency throughout the supply chain and highlight the importance of sustainable practices in today’s business landscape”.
The new initiative includes setting ambitious sustainability goals for its suppliers that align with its “overarching commitment to reduce its environmental impact and promote responsible business practices”.
It will also streamline communication of data requirements through the development of an online supplier portal.
And it said it recognises the challenges this approach brings with it so will offer guidance and support, working closely with suppliers “to ensure they understand these expectations and have the necessary resources to meet sustainability goals”.
As well as providing resources and guidance, there will be technical assistance through THG Eco, described as “an accessible, cost-effective, and simplified in-house sustainability service” provided by the firm.
Its Chief Sustainability Officer Mark Jones said: “THG recognises the importance of addressing all scopes of emissions to create a comprehensive and impactful sustainability strategy. By setting specific targets, the company aims to make meaningful contributions to global environmental conservation efforts.”
