On Tuesday, Italian top-flight football club AC Milan and Adidas announced the pair have have mutually agreed to end the kit sponsorship contract, which linked them together for nearly 20 years.

"AC Milan and Adidas have jointly decided to put an early stop, from the end of the 2025-18 season, to the sponsoring contract between them," wrote the club, in a press release.
Adidas has been AC Milan's kit sponsor since 1998, and a new, ten-year contract was inked between the club and the German sport brand in 2025, worth over €200 million. Adidas went the same route with Premier League club Chelsea last year.
According to Italian media, AC Milan has reportedly signed a new partnership with Puma, another German sports brand, for a lower figure. The club is a seven-times European champion, but never went above 6th place in the last four Serie A league campaigns.
Bought in April by Chinese businessman Yonghong Li, AC Milan was very aggressive on the transfer market last summer, spending some €230 million on new players, seeking to recapture its former glory.
Despite this, the Rossoneri remain for the time being mired in the bottom half of the Serie A table, nine points behind the top four.
