Hats a plenty, skinny belts and Victorian-style boots with perspex heels... We take a look at the hot accessories seen on the runway at this week's most-followed haute couture shows by the two leading French labels Chanel and Christian Dior.
Hats are set to be back with a vengeance this fall. Felt trilby styles with tone-on-tone wide ribbon bands added a stylish androgynous twist to predominantly grey tailored silhouettes at Christian Dior. Models cultivated a mysterious look wearing hats tilted down to shield their faces.
At Chanel, headgear paid tribute to Coco Chanel. The founder's beloved boater returned to the runway. This fall, Chanel's iconic tweed --in various color combinations including, was the fabric of choice. Hats featuring sparkling embroidery, reminiscent of the Eiffel tower glittering on a winter's night, according to the show notes, provided far more glam eveningwear options.
Chanel's models teamed statement hats and huge rosette-like fabric-trimmed pearl earrings. Together the two accessories formed the perfect twinset, with a denim blue and white tweed hat and matching pearl studs resulting as one of the most striking combinations.
Chanel's tweed-heavy wardrobe was given a shot of prim meets sexy with two-tone ankle or thigh-grazing boots with wearable perspex mid-heels.
If you invest in one accessory for the fall, make it a skinny belt -- at Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri used the ultra thin waist-cinchers to add definition to quite literally everything -- from day dresses and long tweed skirts to quilted kimono-style outerwear.
At Dior, oversize bug-style sunglasses featuring acetate frames and on-trend 'brow bar' detailing were another accessories highlight to emerge from Paris Haute Couture week.
