On the evening of 12 October Dutch fashion platform, Fashionclash, announced the winners of this year’s Fashion Makes Sense Award. The cash prize is aimed at a young, conscious new generation of designers who share innovative ideas for sustainability.

The Fashion Makes Sense Award consists of two categories: a jury prize and an audience favorite. The 2025 jury prize has been awarded to Birute Mazeikaite, the fashion designer behind Berlin-based label, Mukashi Mukashi Berlin. Mazeikaite received €2.500 in cash prize. The prize will be used to produce a sustainable collection, which will be presented during the 2025 Fashionclash Festival, which will take place 15-17 June in Maastricht.
In addition, design duo Strikks received a €500 cash prize. The Maastricht-based knitting studio was the audience favorite during the Fashionclash award ceremony. The winners were chosen from 10 finalists, who all created sustainable womenswear designs.
The jury consisted of the British Carry Somers, co-founder of Fashion Revolution; Willa Stoutenbeek from the Netherlands, founder of W. Green, a sustainable fashion PR agency; Jasmien Wynants from Belgium, project manager Flanders DC; and Arnhem-based sustainable fashion designer Elsien Gringhuis.
Fashionclash is an innovative and interdisciplinary showcase for fashion, and a worldwide network of emerging designers and artists. Since 2009 the Maastricht-based platform organizes festivals, in addition to awards, exhibitions and pop-up stores. To date, Fashionclash has showcased the work of more than 1,000 designers from 50 different countries. The platform is operated by designers Nawie Kuiper, Branko Popovic and Laurens Hamacher.
