LA Fashion Week has announced its third annual opening night gala will take place on September 28th at the Hollywood Athletic Club and feature the work of high profile visual artists such as Banksy and Plastic Jesus.
Plastic Jesus gained recent notoriety for building a wall around Donald Drumpf's Hollywood star. There will also be two iconic pieces from Banksy. In addition to these artists, Sur Le Mur's Megan Phillips commissioned work from various high profile artists such as Risk, Lincoln Townley and Alexandra Grant.
Phillips said, "I've commissioned an amazing group of world renowned artists, who have all graciously created unique pieces for LA Fashion Week. Fashion and art have an increasingly symbiotic relationship in our society, as they are intertwined in the pursuit of beauty. I feel LAFW has encompassed these aspects this year, and I am very thankful for this unique union of fashion and art."
This edition of LAFW is different because the participants are looking to create new ways to explore and experience their brands. Influencers and brand ambassadors will attend and celebrate the designers and artists showing at LAFW.
18 designers have SS17 runway shows scheduled to take place from September 28 through October 2.
This is the third year of LAFW which has been designated as the official fashion week of Los Angeles by the City's mayor and a California state senator. Sponsors of this year's event include L'Oreal Professional, Luxelab, W Hotel, Kinesio, Seed Floral, Media Playground PR/The Park Showroom, and the Indonesian Consulate.
