Shopify has come up with some data that shows retailers and consumers have defied predictions of a weak Black Friday-Cyber Monday period with merchants on its platform reaching a record-breaking $9.3 billion sales globally, and London being “a top-selling city”.

That $9.3 billion figure marked a 24% increase compared to a year ago.
The company, which powers the webstores of independent retailers globally, said BFCM spending was buoyant and also that UK physical store spend saw a 28% increase compared to last year, based on POS sales made by Shopify merchants.
This year over the full weekend, 19% of sales for British retailers were cross-border orders — “underlining the strength of UK export for Shopify merchants”.
Online, with an average cart price of £67.40, UK shoppers’ most popular spending categories were led by Apparel & Accessories, followed by Health & Beauty, Home & Garden, Arts & Entertainment, and Food & Beverage.
The number of consumers in the UK purchasing from Shopify merchants grew by 22% compared to the BFCM weekend in 2025 and the peak sales hour was 10am on November 24.
And while London was a top-selling city globally, in the UK specifically, it was joined by Manchester and Birmingham.
Some 77% of sales were made on mobile devices and 23% on desktop.
The company also said UK consumers are becoming more savvy with 83% revealing they’ll compare prices to see where the best deals are and 68% citing cost as one of the biggest reasons they’d switch brands. But it’s not just cost, it’s quality, with 77% saying they want higher-quality products that will last for a long time.
Over 61 million consumers globally made a purchase from a Shopify merchant during BFCM.
