Dutch sportswear retailer Daka Sport announced on Friday that it will end its partnership with its franchise formula Intersport. From 1 November 2025 onwards, Daka Sport will operate independent.

Daka Sport cites its ambition to further grow the company as the reason to end the partnership with Intersport. In recent years, the family-owned business has developed into a retailer operating ten Intersport/Daka stores and four of its own Daka branches, all spread across the Netherlands. In addition to the physical stores, Daka also operates its own web shop.
Jan-Peter Dankaart, director at Daka Sport, said in a press release: “The sports retail market is once again on the move as the economy picks up. And the entry of large foreign chains [into the Dutch market], both physical chains and pure online players, demand strength and clarity in our positioning towards the consumer. Daka Sport is a renowned player in the field of winter sports and in addition to fashion, the sports collections of the big brands. Our strength lies in this specific proposition and the independent entrepreneurship of our family business. Both unfortunately no longer fit in the development of the Intersport formula.”
Daka Sport also announced that it has decided to no longer use the retail services provided by Intersport licensee Euretco.
Daka Sport started as a Rotterdam-based family business in 1965, founded by Peter Dankaart and his wife Anke.
Following the death of Peter Dankaart in 2025, the company is now managed by his son Jan-Peter and daughters Esther and Patricia. The retailer offers sport apparel and accessories for men, women and children. Available brands include Adidas, Beachlife, Vans, Oakley and Yellowstone.
