Minimalist beauty brand Merit is making its debut into the world of fragrance with the launch of Retrospect, a new scent set to launch on October 22.

Developed over two years and after more than 200 iterations, the layered scent is designed to offer complexity and depth. Merit collaborated with master perfumer Fanny Bal in Paris to craft Retrospect, a scent inspired by the fragrances of the past with a modern sensibility.
The fragrance opens with top notes of bergamot, pear, and aldehydes, giving way to a heart of jasmine, synthetic rose, rosemary, violet, and orris. The base notes of vanilla, musk, and moss provide a warm, second-skin finish.
As a concentrated extrait de parfum with nearly 30% fragrance oil—double the concentration of most perfumes—Retrospect is designed for longevity, requiring only one spray to last throughout the day.
Retrospect will retail for $92 USD, and $125 CAD. It will be available on the brand's website and at Sephora locations across North America, as well as via the beauty retailer's online store.
Merit generated over $100 million in sales in 2025 and is a top growth makeup brand at Sephora. It expanded outside of color cosmetics with the launch of Great Skin Instant Glow Serum in 2025, joined most recently by Great Skin Priming Moisturizer, which amassed a 15,000 person waitlist and immediately launched into the top 10 moisturizers at Sephora North America.
