Quiz Clothing bowed to the inevitable on Wednesday as administrators were called in — a little later than expected — to the struggling business, or at least to the part of the business that runs its stores.
And it was reported by Sky News that 23 of the chain’s more-than-60 stores will be closed with the loss of around 200 jobs, although the majority of the roughly 1,500 jobs at the firm are likely to be saved.
The company also operates multiple concessions as well as its standalone stores.
Teneo has been appointed administrator not to Quiz but to to Zandra Retail, the entity that operates its stores in Britain and Ireland. The online operation is run by another subsidiary and is reportedly unaffected.
Quiz was only recently delisted from the London Stock Exchange and taken private by its founding Ramzan family. The business, which is chaired by former JD Sports chief Peter Cowgill, has been struggling for some time but its turnaround attempts proved fruitless.
Now it probably has a better chance of making a go of it as the administration means it will be able to close underperforming stores. It’s believed a pre-pack administration deal will see the firm’s assets acquired by Orion Retail, which is controlled by Quiz’s founding family.
