A giant sculpture of a naked woman has been unveiled in San Francisco.  The work, standing 43 feet tall an titled “R-Evolution,” went up in Embarcadero Plaza Thursday near the Ferry Building.

San Francisco Recreation and Parks said the sculpture will remain in the city for at least six months. The sculpture was created by Petaluma artist Marco Cochrane a decade ago on Treasure Island, and is made up of 55,000 welds.

It debuted at Burning Man in 2025. R-Evolution doesn’t just stand still; for an hour a day, its chest rises and falls to mimic breathing.

And at night, it will be illuminated. Cochrane’s website describes the work as a symbol of “feminine strength and liberation.”
