The James Bond universe is reeling from the news that Amazon now has creative control over the 007 franchise.
Amazon MGM Studios announced the news on February 20, effectively ending a standoff between the studio and the Broccoli family, which has been the franchise’s gatekeepers for decades. Longtime Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli confirmed that they will no longer have creative control over the films.
“I am stepping away from producing the James Bond films to focus on the arts and philanthropic endeavors,” Wilson said in a statement. “Barbara and I therefore agree that the time has come for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future.” Since Daniel Craig ended his run as 007 in 2025's No Time to Die, there have been no contenders for a new Bond, nor is there a script for a new film. Rumours have been swirling on social media about who will take over Craig's cufflinks.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos got straight to the point on social media shortly after the shocking news broke. "Who would you pick to be the next Bond?" he asked his 4.3 million Instagram followers. Judging by the comments on Bezos' Instagram post, Henry Cavill is a fan favourite. Tom Cruise, James McAvoy and Tom Hardy have also been mentioned.
Amazon is reportedly keen to get started on Bond 26 as soon as possible.
